Nearly 600,000 households rent in Aotearoa and research shows that rental properties are often in poorer condition than owner-occupied homes.

Cold, damp and mouldy homes are not good for our health - especially for people with asthma and heart conditions.

The healthy homes standards introduce minimum standards for rental homes – because we all deserve to live in a cosy, dry home.

Tenants and landlords both have a role to play in raising the standard of our rental properties, keep reading to find out what you should be doing.

Thanks to the healthy homes standards rentals will be improving.

The healthy homes standards became law on 1 July 2019. It’s about long term improvements for the health of our family, friends and whānau.
